Barents Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC) is the forum for intergovernmental cooperation in the Barents Region. BEAC was established in 1993 in order to "provide impetus to existing cooperation and consider new initiatives and proposals"

BEAC wishes to provide you with extensive information about the history of the co-operation, its organisational structure, terms of reference and basic documents. And also information about the Region itself, maps, photos etc. This Website covers ongoing co-operation in several important fields such as energy, environment, economy etc. It is also a portal to numerous other fields of co-operation in the Barents Region.

The XII Ministerial Session of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council

The BEAC member countries and the EU Commission met in Murmansk, October 15, to discuss accomplishments and challenges of the Barents Cooperation. Sweden, represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Bildt, took over the Chairmanship of BEAC for the next two years from Russia, represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov.

The Ministerial Session was coordinated with the Session of the Governors of the Barents Regional Council and the Murmansk International Economic Forum

On his way to Murmansk, the incoming BEAC Chair, Mr. Carl Bildt visited the International Barents Secretariat and the Norwegian Barents Secretariat in Kirkenes together with Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gahr-Store. The two ministers then travelled together with their delegations and media representatives to Murmansk. On the road they stopped in Nikkel - the number one priority of the environmental hot spots in the Barents Region. Slideshow


The Session of the Governors of the Barents Regional Council (BRC) 

The 13 members regions of the Barents Cooperation met one day prior to the Ministerial Session where the Oulu Region handed over the BRC Chairmanship to Troms for 2009-2011. The regions also participated in the Ministerial Session.
