Joint Working Group on Youth

The joint working group on Youth (JWGY) was established to merge  two working groups existing within the BEAC structure - Working Group on Youth Policy (WGYP) and Regional Working Group on Youth Issues. This step was aimed at concentration of the BEAC efforts on youth direction and encrease of their effectiveness.

Youth policy first appeared on the BEAC agenda at it’s sixth meeting in Bodø in 1999. An ad-hoc Working Group on Youth Policy (WGYP) was established, and made permanent in 2002. In May 2002 the BEAC Ministers for Youth Policy adopted the Plan of Action with the aim to increase youth cooperation in the Barents Region. To this end the Barents Youth Cooperation Office was established in Murmansk in December 2002.

The Regional Working Group on Youth Issues was established by The Barents Regional Committee to support the implementation of the Youth Program. The Group worked in close cooperation with the intergovernmental Working Group on Youth Policy (WGYP).
