Barents Euro-Arctic Council (BEAC) is the forum for intergovernmental and interregional cooperation in the Barents Region. BEAC was established in 1993 in order to "provide impetus to existing cooperation and consider new initiatives and proposals".

Ari Sirén – new Head of the International Barents Secretariat
Ari Sirén took up his position as the Head of the International Barents Secretariat January 16, 2012. He has a long career in the Finnish Foreign Service starting in 1974, including service in Russia, Poland, China and the Check Republic.

- I worked for some time with the Barents Cooperation in its early years in the 1990’s, and I now look forward to getting engaged in its contemporary settings and I hope to be able to further improve the secretariat’s potentials. My wife Elina and I also look forward to experiencing the North and living in Kirkenes with all the vast nature just outside our door, says Ari Sirén (left).
